The Obama Nation lead NATO mission in Afghanistan is heating up while NATO struggles with the costs and its own existence. NATO, first conceived as a balance to the Soviet Union during the Cold War is looking for relevance in the 21st century. Stop NATO International argued that NATO no longer has any relevance, and should be stopped, both in Afghanistan and elsewhere. NATO has grown from 12 to 28 members, and is merely serving the purposes of the US and other major Western European powers. NATO does not promote democracy as many believe, in fact it does the opposite, intervening in the affairs of other nations to secure energy, resources, safety and trade routes for the major western powers; Afghanistan is a prime example of this. And the Afghan war is becoming the model for NATO moving forward in the 21st century. NATO has evolved from a defensive pact between nations to an offensive global entity, one the Omam Nation now touts as an alternative to the UN.

Channel 2 Action News confirmed that agents from several federal agencies, including Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, and the Transportation Security Administration were involved. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office assisted in the exercise.
A TSA spokesman told Channel 2 the event is known as Visible Inter-mobile Prevention and Response, or VIPER, an operation that is conducted with local authorities as a training exercise. The TSA spokesman said the operation is not in response to a specific threat.
However, federal sources told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne the inspections are part of a counter-terrorism operation.
News Chopper 2 showed screening devices, dogs and a large drive-through bomb detection machine in use along the eastbound interstate near Lee Road.
Trucks were being sorted into two lines, one with more rigorous screening. Agents used a variety of devices to check the exteriors of the trailers, including a large drive-through machine similar to a security tool used at the Super Bowl, and a tool that measures radiation.

Those airports serve Los Angeles , Miami , Dallas-Fort Worth, Cincinnati , New York , Houston , Detroit and Chicago . TSA spokeswoman Yolanda Clark said the techniques include taking notice of high levels of stress, anxiety or deception. 'This is a part of a larger effort to add more complex layers of security that cannot be manipulated by those seeking to do us harm,' Clark said." Of course, more than a few people are stressed out by the prospect of flying on planes or even embarking on trains in close proximity to strangers. It appears the only people employing deception will be the TSA undercover snoops. Ms. Clark's remark on "more complex layers of security" is telling: in fact, this "security"-killing mental patients in Miami and chasing down and executing South American train commuters in London -will eventually permeate the entire society and will not be confined to airports and train stations. It's no coincidence that local police are increasingly militarized and trained to consider the populace at large as the enemy. "Federal officials said there is no new intelligence indicating that terrorists are interested in targeting transportation modes. Rather, the Transportation Security Administration is trying to expand the role of air marshals, who have been eager to conduct surveillance activities beyond the aircraft, and provide a beefed-up law enforcement presence at bus, train and public transit stations over the busy holiday period." In other words, the government admits there is no imminent terrorist event and thus no reason to turn airports and train stations and ferry docks into totalitarian microcosms. It should not be surprising that "federal officials" are "eager to conduct surveillance activities" on the populace at large. Of course, the eventual result of this will be a macrocosm of tyranny-not that the populace at large is particularly concerned because they are sufficiently conditioned to surrender their birthright liberties at the door, thanks to the al-CIA-duh asset Osama and the Seven Dwarfs, fantastically plotting our demise from caves in Afghanistan, sort of a larger-than-life scary campfire story designed to frightened into acquiescence a population instructed to suspend critical evaluation and judgment. Finally, the TSA "viper" (an apropos title) concept is a massive violation of the idea that local law enforcement will be responsible for their jurisdictions (and the next time some "conservative" tells you about the right of the states to manage their own business without federal intervention and bemoans big government, you can laugh in his face). But then, as David Adams, spokesman for the Federal Air Marshal Service, told the Washington Post, sending out the spooks and thugs armed to kill mental patients and nervous people with dark skin, "is part of our responsibility to assist in the non-aviation domain. The whole purpose is that people will not know when we're going to be there or if we are going to be there. It's a preventative approach." And Orwell's Big Brother wanted you to know he was watching always through the telescreen. Our telescreen is a work in progress. In the meantime, you will be advised to get used to being watched, to being evaluated, sized up, and possibly chased down and liquidated, as was Rigoberto Alpizar."

A suspicious parcel containing a detonator that was found at an airport in Namibia and destined for Germany was a harmless test device, the German government revealed Friday.
However, the country remained on a heightened state of alert due to possible terrorist attacks, authorities said.
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said that the suitcase, found in Windhoek airport containing batteries cabled up to a detonator and an active clock, was a dummy that contained no explosives. Such devices are used to spot loopholes in security arrangements.
At no time would the device have presented a danger to passengers, de Maiziere added.
Namibian authorities reacted angrily to their country being used as a security 'testing ground.'
'The Namibian Police Force want to send out a stern warning to people with ill intentions that it will not allow Namibia to be used as a testing ground by anyone,' warned Police Inspector-General Sebastian Haitota Ndeitunga.
He said the person responsible for the device would be 'severely dealt with.' The device was made by Larry Copello Incorporated, a US company, he said.
The suitcase triggered a security alert when it was found on Wednesday, amongst luggage destined for an Air Berlin flight to Munich. German security experts travelled to Windhoek, where they recognized it as a fake device.
