Military readies reservists for threats to ‘domestic front’.
The Canadian military has embarked on a wide-ranging plan to turn its reserve soldiers into focused units trained and equipped to respond to a nightmarish array of domestic threats, including terrorist “dirty bomb” attacks, biological agent containment, Arctic catastrophes and natural disasters.
The creation of seven units within each region of the country — including unusual all-terrain vehicle (ATV) squadrons and perimeter security teams to cordon areas of potential devastation — prepares reserve soldiers for operations on the “domestic front” while freeing regular force soldiers to concentrate on foreign battlefields.
“There is a recognition, certainly within the military and we have heard the government say, that domestic security is the number one priority. A number of these conclusions come from the post-9/11 world we live in,” said Brigadier-General Jean Collin, commander of the army in Ontario, during an exclusive interview with the National Post.
Domestic Terror Threat Growing, Senate Committee Warns
There is an increasing threat of homegrown terror stemming from segments of a deeply isolated and alienated Somali-American community, a U.S. Senate committee hearing concluded Wednesday. The hearing, conducted by the Senate Homeland and Governmental Affairs Committee, focused on the attempted recruitment of young Somali-American men by al-Shabaab, "a violent and brutal extremist (Somali) group" with significant ties to al Qaeda, according to the U.S. State Department. "Over the last two years, individuals from the Somali community in the United States, including American citizens, have left for Somalia to support and in some cases fight on behalf of al-Shabaab," noted the committee's chairman, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Connecticut. Al-Shabaab -- also known as the Mujahedeen Youth Movement -- was officially designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government in March 2008. The hearing highlighted the case of Shirwa Ahmed, a 27-year-old Somali-American who had been radicalized by al-Shabaab in his adopted home state of Minnesota before traveling to Somalia and blowing up himself and 29 others in October. The idea that Ahmed was radicalized in the United States raised red flags throughout the U.S. intelligence community. The incident -- the first suicide bombing by a naturalized U.S. citizen -- was the "most significant case of homegrown American terrorism recruiting based on violent Islamist ideology," Lieberman said

The call by some right wing leaders for rebellion and for the military to refuse the commander in chief’s orders is joined by Chuck Norris who claims that thousands of right wing cell groups have organized and are ready for a second American Revolution. During an appearance on the Glen Beck radio show he promised that if things get any worse from his point of view he may “run for president of Texas.” The martial artist/actor/activist claims that Texas was never formally a part of the United States in the first place and that if rebellion is to come through secession Texas would lead the way.
Today in his syndicated column on WorldNetDaily Norris reiterates the point: “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”
He continues; calling on a second American Revolution; “…we've bastardized the First Amendment, reinterpreted America's religious history and secularized our society until we ooze skepticism and circumvent religion on every level of public and private life.
How much more will Americans take? When will enough be enough? And, when that time comes, will our leaders finally listen or will history need to record a second American Revolution? I was also in the Student Police Dept. once and was removed after a public hearing , because other crooked cops framed me in a theft at the Acadamy. Moderator U of M Political Scientist Larry Jacobs asked Hersh if presidents [get] drawn into improper covert actions that exceed their constitutional powers. Hersh replied, "Yuh. After 9/11... the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it... the Joint Special Operations Command -- JSOC it’s called. It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently. They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. They did not report to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff or to Mr. [Robert] Gates, the secretary of defense. They reported directly to him. ... Congress has no oversight of it. The area has been under extensive exploration and investigation for more than two decades by the Mirador Basin Project, directed by Richard Hansen, senior scientist in the Institute for Mesoamerican Research at Idaho State University and president of the FARES Foundation based in Idaho.

The discoveries include major finds in the ancient city of El Mirador and the newly discovered ancient city in the southern part of the Basin known as El Pesquero, Spanish for "The Fishermen." The area, which was known anciently as the "Kan" (serpent) Kingdom, consists of about 810,000 acres of pristine tropical forest in northern Guatemala and contains a concentration of very large and early ancient Maya cities, dating to the Middle and Late Preclassic periods of Maya civilization, between about 1000 B.C. and A.D. 150.

Conventional science has it that the dinosaurs were wiped out many millions of years ago either as the result of climate change or a meteorite hitting earth. Some researchers, however, claim that dinosaurs might have continued to roam remote parts of the earth as recently as a few hundred years ago. A few even claim that there might be some small populations of dinosaurs, otherwise believed to be extinct, surviving in the world’s most isolated forests.
A reader has sent to All News Web these photos of the stunning Ta Prohm Temple deep in the jungles of Cambodia. This temple is the work of the remarkable Khmer civilization which lasted from the 800’s AD until the 1400’s AD.
The temple is covered with the most intricate of carvings. The reader who was visiting the area noticed very distinct and clear images that seem to depict a Stegosaurus, indicating that this creature might well have survived up until the Khmer era in the region. One expert on Khmer ruins has told us that it is unlikely that these images are a recent addition to the temple.The stegosaurus was a spectacular beast best known for the row of kite shaped plates that ran along the length of its back. According to conventional science this species existed in North America and died out around 155 million years ago. Villagers in the vicinity of the temple are said to retain traditions of this animal existing until fairly recent times.

Earthquake Swarm Hits Hanford Nuclear Reservation
Hanford, WA - A swarm of small earthquakes registering more than 280 of them since the first of the year - is tickling an area near eastern Washington's Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
The quakes have caused some problems at the LIGO laboratory at Hanford, knocking sensitive equipment off-line for a few minutes at a time. The sprawling facility -- LIGO stands for Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, was built to measure ripples in the fabric of space and time. Cosmic gravitational waves are produced by such things as the collision of black holes or shockwaves from supernova explosions.
The quakes were luckily too small to disturb the radioactive material stored at Hanford or to interfere with cleanup operations there, said Alan Rohay, senior scientist and seismologist with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which operates at Hanford. The plant processed plutonium for nuclear weapons during World War II and the Cold War.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Space shuttle Discovery's external tank is being filled with more than 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The three-hour operation began at 11:56 a.m. EDT. There still is a 95 percent chance that weather will not affect the 9:20 p.m. launch of STS-119. The forecast also is favorable at the Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility, Edwards Air Force Base in California and all three overseas transatlantic sites, should an abort landing be necessary.
Discovery's STS-119 flight will deliver the space station's fourth and final set of solar array wings, completing the station's truss, or backbone. The arrays will provide the electricity to fully power science experiments and support the station's expanded crew of six in May. The 14-day mission will feature four spacewalks to help install the S6 truss segment to the starboard, or right, side of the station and the deployment of its solar arrays. CLOSE CALL: A piece of space junk about the size of a small marble zipped past the International Space Station today at a relative speed of ~20,000 mph. As a safety precaution, the crew sheltered themselves in the station's Soyuz landing craft. If the debris had hit the ISS, puncturing its hull, the crew could have quickly closed the hatches of the Soyuz and returned to Earth. It missed, and ISS operations have returned to normal.
