Hulu to shock the world with Super Bowl ad
Well, well, well. Here's something that just came into my inbox, and presumably the inboxes of the rest of the digital-media press corps: an e-mail from the media team at Hulu, the joint video venture between NBC Universal and News Corp., announcing that the company will be running an ad during Sunday's Super Bowl XLIII. Considering the game airs on NBC, a Hulu ad is not too hard to fathom.
It seems like there's always a rumor about some huge tech announcement that will come to light during the annual football-and-advertising bacchanalia, like that Beatles-iTunes thing two years ago that never surfaced. But at least we know this one actually exists, and to boot, it sounds like Hulu is really hoping to make a splash along the lines of Apple's landmark "1984" ad that aired 25 years ago.
"During Super Bowl XLIII this Sunday, look for the launch of Hulu's ad campaign," the e-mail read. "Finally, we'll reveal the secret behind Hulu."
Ooh! Secrets! I love secrets! Clearly we will learn one of three things this Sunday:
1. Hulu is the Matrix.
2. Hulu is Luke Skywalker's father.
3. Hulu is people.
Aw, heck. With a revelation like this on the way, who cares whether the Steelers or Cardinals win?

On the Last Episode of 24:Day 6, The head guard from Palmdale updates Bill on the situation. Bill realizes Fayed wanted Numair, the scientist, to escape within the U.S. borders. Chloe tells Bill they don’t have full satellite coverage of the area. Milo tells Bill that Numair knows all of the systems to build and operate the suitcase nukes.
Milo tries to give Morris some work, but he says he’s too busy working for Chloe. Chloe says she never assigned anything to Morris. Milo tells Morris that now isn’t the time to be jerking him around.

Gi Joe 'Rise of the Cobra' Movie Trailer for Superbowl 2009
In early December Jason from Nuke The Fridge wen to a test screening of the movie trailer of GI Joe Rise of Cobra. Here his description of the GI Joe trailer he saw:
Update: the superbowl trailer of GI Joe Rise of Cobra is now available:
[...] What can I say about it? Well, it was horrible. No, actually it was worse than horrible. The trailer begins with some jets zooming by and dropping some bombs. Then we see Dennis Quaid as Hawk talking to members of a new elite fighting force he says has been put together to fight terrorism.
We see a couple of terrorist attacks, some G.I. Joe guys dressed like Snake Eyes jumping out of a plane and the Eiffel tower being topped by what looks like some green ooze.
Next we see some quick shots of a number of characters like Scarlett, Channing Tatum’s Duke on a motorcycle, Sienna Miller as the Baroness sliding down a staircase railing, and a quick shot of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow fighting. About the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fight…it looks about as bad as a fight from the “Double Dragon” movie from the early 90’s.
Finally we get another quick editing job of some action sequences that go by really too quick to make anything out, and then finally there is this really lame sequence featuring some horrible CG work, as a couple of rockets are launched at some Joes dressed again to look like Snake Eyes. They do this dive / twirl through mid air where they some how avoid the rockets as they swirl by.
The “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” title appears on screen followed by “Summer 2009.” In all the trailer was about a minute long. I was told they are testing the trailer for debut as a possible Super Bowl commercial.
There was no footage of Destro, Zartan, or Cobra Commander. More than likely because they look so bad, based on the above described footage. From the trailer, it looks like this is going to be a horrible movie. Way too cheesy for my taste anyways.
So I suspect that the Super Bowl is when we will be seeing this first teaser trailer. [...]

The movie being scheduled for August 2009 then a trailer during the 2009 Super Bowl in February would be a good timing I agree. I’m impatient to see this GI Joe movie trailer myself: the description above isn’t appealing, but I have hope that the production team is taking into account the results of the test screenings and that the final version of the Superbowl trailer of GI Joe Rise of Cobra will be better.

Entertainment Tonight had a quick ten second look at the Super Bowl teaser trailer for "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra." First, from the 10 seconds it looks like they went back and re-edited. There is some new footage I did not see. And that is a good thing. This brief footage does look a little better. Though it looks like some frantic anime, at least the quality of what they are showing is better. Secondly, that last shot in this footage proves my original review was legit. You can catch the two Joes doing a "dive / twirl through mid air where they some how avoid the rockets as they swirl by." To me, that is just one example of how ridiculous Stephen Sommers allows his movies to get. He always seems compelled to put some stupid action sequence in his movies that never fails to pull the audience out of the action, and makes a potentially decent film not so good.
So check it out and let us know what you think. Of course you will have to wait to Super Bowl Sunday to catch the full 30 second teaser.The lizards make a comeback

The other day we brought you the 2D version of SoBe Lifewater’s Superbowl commercial, which features characters from the upcoming Dreamworks Animation feature Monsters vs. Aliens. And today they have released the 3D version of the trailer online for all to see — or at least those of us nerdy enough to have a pair of 3D glasses laying around the house. Which I do. Upon watching the 3D version, which can be seen below, I’ve discovered a few things. One is that NFL stars Justin Tuck, Matt Light, and Ray Lewis all do have some moves. The second is that 3D on my 20″ iMac doesn’t work so well. Hopefully it looks better tomorrow on the big screen during the big game because the commercial’s concept is actually pretty cool. I’m also curious to see how the other Monsters vs. Aliens 3D commercial comes out, as well as that 3D episode of Chuck on Monday night.
We also received word this afternoon that SoBe’s doing an online sweepstakes through Facebook. People who sign up as a SoBe fan at Facebook.com/sobe by midnight on Sunday will get a chance to win a trip to Vegas for a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Party. I know a few members of the FSR staff who would be down with that — including me.

Sony Pictures have begun promotion of the movie adaptation Dan Brown's Angels and Demons (a conspiracy thriller involving the Illuminati and the Vatican), with the official website as well as a multi-stage "Path of Illumination" contest. The movie website also features an early trailer, though it doesn't show very much - more for setting the atmosphere than anything.
I'm afraid I won't be playing the contest, as (a) it's not open to those in Australia, and (b) it requires you to have a Windows Live account. Sometimes I'll jump through a few hoops, but I really don't feel like signing up to Microsoft in a blatant marketing move (requiring a Windows Live account, and a download of the new Photosynth program).
But feel free to share tips/hints in the comments thread to this story if you do enter. One thing perhaps worth noting - in the trailer, the words 'Altars of Science' is 'hidden' within the "Illuminati" ambigram.

| Remember a few months back when everyone was circulating those "CARET DRAGONFLY DRONE" A little bit of research, and I found out that ALIENWARE Corp created it as a marketing gimmick for a new gaming computers, the "AREA 51 series". It got people to send out their ads for free to groups like these, and forward them to their friends. The video below looked like something you'd see on a video game like PS2 or X-BOX, so I did some checking... It is one of five released as part of a "Viral Marketing Campaign" or "Stealth Marketing Campaign" for a game called "SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS" for PS2. I have to admit that I unknowingly participated in the "Subservient Chicken" one... Actually.. harry on the job |
