IDF preparing options for Iran strike 04 Dec 2008 The IDF is drawing up options for a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities that do not include coordination with the United States, The Jerusalem Post has learned. While its preference is to coordinate with the US, defense officials have said Israel is preparing a wide range of options for such an operation. "It is always better to coordinate," one top Defense Ministry official explained last week. "But we are also preparing options that do not include coordination."

Israel 'prepared to attack' Iran nuclear plants 04 Dec 2008 Israel is drawing up plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities and is prepared to launch a strike without backing from the US, it has been reported. "Each of the four operational squadrons would consist of 11 combat-coded aircraft," said Air Combat Command spokeswoman Maj. Michelle Coghill.

Terrorists could mount nuclear or biological attack within 5 years, warns Congress inquiry 04 Dec 2008 An investigation by the US Congress into weapons of mass destruction published yesterday made a chilling prediction of terrorists mounting an attack using biological or nuclear weapons within the next five years. The six-month inquiry mentioned Pakistan as one of the likeliest sources of such an attack. The target could be the US or some other part of the world. The report, by the bipartisan Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction, said "unless the world community acts decisively and with great urgency, it is more likely than not that a weapon of mass destruction will be used in a terrorist attack somewhere in the world by the end of 2013".

Alarm raised on threat of mass assault 04 Dec 2008 Terrorist organisations would succeed in using weapons of mass destruction within five years unless the world community "acts decisively", according to a congressionally mandated commission set up to scrutinise WMD after the September 11 attacks. "It is more likely than not that a weapon of mass destruction will be used in a terrorist attack somewhere in the world by the end of 2013," according to the report, released yesterday by the commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism.

Slew of Warnings on Nuclear, Biological Terrorism Prompt Worries of Fearmongering 03 Dec 2008 After a series of dire new warnings about possible terrorist threats--capped by a government commission's report that terrorists are likely to stage a biological or nuclear attack somewhere in the world during the next five years--some experts are urging officials "to retire the fear card," as California Rep. Jane Harman puts it.
