The corporate chieftains, the literati and glitterati, the bankers and billionaires, visionaries and wannabes, and a movie star or two. They descended on the small ski resort town of Davos, Switzerland, for the 2008 World Economic Forum's annual meeting. Criticized and even ridiculed in recent years by some, Davos still matters for one reason: No other conference matches the WEF's power of attraction.

Nearly four decades old, Davos entices everyone from Bill Gates to Bill Clinton to share the limelight in not only the same square mile but sometimes even at the same time.
