The Emerald Tablet of Hermes, The Hermetic Tradition & The Golden Dawn
Since 2,000 years ago, Hermetic Science has taught a triad of spiritual practices - called the Trivium Hermeticum - Astrology, Theurgy (Magick), and Alchemy - that together comprise a powerful system of energetic evolution known as the Royal Art of Solar Ascension.
The Hermetic Arts are still very much alive and well today.
The famous Freemason and scholar, Kenneth MacKenzie, was initiated into the Hermetic Arts by Hungarian Count Apponyi around 1850 in Austria.
MacKenzie later coded certain materials from Apponyi into the famous Cypher Manuscripts, which were later used by S.L. MacGregor Mathers, W.Wynn Wescott, and Robert Woodman to found the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
One essential document of the Hermetic Tradition is the Emerald Tablet of Hermes. Its importance dates back to the medieval and Renaissance period, when a translation was made into Latin from Arabic. Interpretations or renditions were made public by many notable figures such as Roger Bacon, Isaac Newton, Albertus Magnus, and Trimethius.
The Golden Dawn, of course, integrated the Emerald Tablet of Hermes into its core teachings. Due to its popularity, the Emerald Tablet of Hermes has been quoted by many modern authors in North America. They believed that it was so valuable because it contained the teachings for the achievement of the aims of the alchemists.
It didn’t take long for the Emerald Tablet of Hermes to enter the lexicon of the everyday New Age speakers. Parts of the the New Age community has come to believe that the Emerald Tablet of Hermes has to do with New Age notions like the Law of Attraction or Astral Initiation. This is unsupported by the facts.
There are those in the New Age community claim the Emerald Tablet is 10,000 years old. This is highly unlikely as that would be nearly 7,000 years before the pyramids were built - nearly 3,000 years before even the beginning of culture in Sumeria! The cryptic nature of the lines of the Emerald Tablet make it easy for fanciful theories to be spread as though they were facts.
This is why I was pleased to see that finally a valid translation of the original has surfaced with authentic keys to its cipher. The oldest known copy of the Emerald Tablet dates back to a manuscript attributed to Apolonius of Tyana that was translated into Arabic in the early 9th century. It was finalized by the Caliphate al-Ma’mun (813-33).
According to Apollonius of Tyana, he found the Emerald Tablets of Hermes in a catacomb in his city. You can read the full story here.
Scholars have seen parallel between this book and the Syriac Book of Treasures written by Job Odessa. Interestingly enough, Apollonius claimed the tablet was written in Syriac. He has also discussed in his book some of the mysteries of The Emerald Tablet of Hermes as it relates to Talismanic magic and spiritual transformation.
Every student of the Golden Dawn should invest some time studying this new information on the Emerald Tablet of Hermes if they are serious about initiation into the mysteries or practicing Hermetic Magic or Alchemy.

The Avatar movie is just the latest installment from Hollywood to move us closer to accepting the Global Elite’s psychopathic religious beliefs.
Plato, the Greek philosopher, taught that there are 5 elements: Fire, Earth, Water, Air and Aether (Ether). The last element, Aether, can best be described as pure energy or light. It is the stuff of the eternities.
Gnosticism, the religious belief of the Knights Templar, holds that mankind is nothing more or less than Aether trapped in a physical world and held there by Satan (they called him the demi-urge). Through multiple reincarnations, they held, a man or woman could become purified and ultimately freed from the other elements.
New Age religions call those with perfect Aether content, ascendant masters. George Bush referred to them as his 1,000 points of light. They include Mohammed, Christ, Buddha etc. Gnosticism holds that all light will be returned to Logos, or God, and exist as mass consciousness free from the limitations of the physical elements. One mind as it were.
These beliefs form the foundation of the Nicene Creed. The Emperor Constantine is held up as a “Philosopher King”, but he was also a Gnostic. Catholics and Protestants both adhere to the belief that there is no physical resurrection. Their creeds teach that we ultimately abandon the elements and become one with the mind of Christ (Logos). This is contrary to the beliefs of early Christians and Biblical scriptures, which teach that Jesus was resurrected with a physical body and we will do the same.
The Knights Templar, after being cut off from the Catholic Church, replaced Christ as “Logos” with Lucifer, “The Light Bearer”. God, they felt, had rejected them, so they formed an alliance with the enemy of God.
Luciferianism is the belief that Lucifer is the highest intelligence in the eternities. He is the father of wisdom, science and philosophy. Like the Greek god Prometheus, he gave these things unto man contrary to the decrees of God. Prometheus was punished by Zeus by being chained to a rock while a bird of prey ate his liver (which would regrow daily).
Eventually, the “hero”, Hercules freed Prometheus. The Illuminati believe that they, like Hercules will also free Lucifer from his punishment for giving unto man “wisdom”, science and philosophy. To the Illuminati, the serpent who gave unto Adam and Eve the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, is a hero and not a villain.
The Knights Templar created “Free-Masonry” and “Free Masonry” created the Illuminati (formerly the Rosicrucians). The Illuminati claim to be the Saviors of mankind with their gifts of reason, science and philosophy. But, they are still Gnostics.
They are also Satanists. In Gnosticism, the “Demi-Urge” was Aether that got trapped in the elements we now refer to as earth. It is the Demi-urge’s desire that we should remained trapped with him eternally. This is the being the Illuminati worship as Satan, a separate and distinct entity from Lucifer.
This religious belief is not a new one. It has its roots in the Babylonian and Egyptian mystery religions. In Babylon, Nimrod, the mighty hunter of the people of the Lord, was the enemy of God. He waged eternal warfare with God’s followers on earth (the City of Salem under Melchizedek). He also swore to build a tower so high that it would allow him entrance into the kingdom of God, where he promised to slay God.
Melchizedek is also known as Shem, the righteous son of Noah. He reportedly slew Nimrod in battle and cut his body into pieces. He then sent those pieces to the far reaches of Nimrod’s empire to show that God was still more powerful than man.
Nimrod’s wife was Queen Semiramis. She was the mother of harlots in Babylon. Nimrod was the great oppressor of mankind. Semiramus, heavily involved in “sex majic” became pregnant with an illegitimate son after Nimrod’s death. She falsely claimed that Nimrod himself had impregnated her from beyond the grave and that the child had no earthly father. Without a doubt, she did this to save her own life and the life of her bastard son. She deified Nimrod and was herself deified, along with her son.
Interestingly enough, Nimrod founded both Babylon and Assyria. One city (Babylon) was known for its sexual abominations and the other (Ninevah) for its cold-blooded murders. Nimrod was worshipped as Baal, Bel, Molech etc. Nimrod was also worshipped as the god of the sun. Semiramis was worshiped as the goddess of the moon. She is also known as Ashteroth or Asherah (The Queen of Heaven).
The “savior” son was named Tammuz who was slain by a wild boar, but returns from the underworld each spring.
Some have tried to argue that these systems of religion form the basis for Islam and Christianity. I believe the exact opposite. True Christianity (The Islam) was practiced by Adam, Noah, Enoch and Melchizedek. The Babylonian mystery religions are a cheap Satanic counterfeit of True Christianity (The Islam).
The Avatar, master over the elements, is really Lucifer, the angel of light. Just as the Avatar has power over the 4 elements, Lucifer has power over Satan (also known as the Demi-urge). According to the Illuminati, he will ultimately free us from the physical elements so that we can merge with him as one collective consciousness.
Maitreya also claims the title of “Avatar”. He is admittedly the servant of Lucifer in as much as his movement’s founder, Benjamin Creme, is an admitted Luciferian. Just like Nimrod was a Luciferian-Satanist and his wife as well.
As we continue our discussion of the coming Globalist/Illuminati messiah, it is important to understand that Maitreya is not a new creation. In fact, Luciferianism and Satanism are both as old as time.
We have discussed how Nimrod founded Babylon (The “Great Harlot”) and Assyria (The “Great Oppressor”). I will now explain the Biblical implications of these two societies and how it applies to today.
I quote from the Book of Revelation:
“1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will
shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. (Source)”
Some would argue that this scripture refers to a physical location, but this is inconsistent with modern geography. I am convinced that it refers to a specific economic system. A system that serves Satan by ensnaring the children of men in forbidden lusts. A system that has one standard only; the gold standard. Again I quote from Revelation:
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
And so we see that Babylon is a corrupt economic system that God detests and is determined to “burn with fire”. The concept of Babylon is that things matter more than people. It is guided by the profit motive without thought for the consequences on one’s fellow men.
On the most sinister note, the Illuminati run this system. They are the owners of the narcotics industry, tobacco industry, alcohol industry, pornography, gambling, child sex rings, prostitution and everything else that corrupts the soul of man. They own all these things and yet they are themselves slaves to the consequences of ownership.
When we choose profit over what is morally correct than we tip the scales of justice against us. For a little gold, the Illuminati sell the souls of men to their master, Satan. They are his business partners and so they are also partners in the condemnation he is under.
I quote the following from Isaiah, in the Old Testament:
1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
2 Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.
4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the akingdoms of nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, to adestroy the whole land.
6 Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

Maitreya will be a permissive messiah. He will serve the interests of his masters, the Illuminati. He will teach that there is no sin but not “sharing”. Many of our venerable institutions have already sold their souls to Babylon. In exchange for gold and silver, they turn their backs on the oppressed, the vulnerable and the ignorant. They support unjust wars whose only objective is to prosper financially from the misery of untold millions.
The fate of any society that embraces Babylon is already decreed. They will be burned by fire, just like Sodom and Gomorrah.
The lesson, don’t destroy other people’s lives just because you can make money at it.

LUCIFER PROJECT Second Sun UPDATE

Have you wondered if we might ever get a second sun here in the Solar System? Maybe Jupiter or Saturn could ignite, becoming stars, or perhaps there's already another star orbiting the Sun, and it could return and cause havoc in the Solar System. Well, don't worry, it's not possible.
When NASA's Galileo spacecraft was nearing the end of its mission, NASA scientists decided that the best thing to do with it was to crash it into Jupiter. This would ensure that Galileo didn't accidently crash into one of Jupiter's moons and contaminate any potential life on those moons. But non-scientists were concerned that crashing Galileo might cause Jupiter to ignite and become a second sun.
But it's not possible. An object becomes a star when it has enough mass crushing down to ignite fusion in its core. This takes about 80 times the mass that Jupiter currently has. Unless Jupiter could somehow gain another 80 times its existing mass, there's no way it could become a star.
Of course, when Galileo did crash into Jupiter, nothing happened. The tiny spacecraft was swallowed up by the enormous planet and crushed by its intense gravity.
NASA is planning to do the same thing with the Cassini spacecraft, and now people on the internet are concerned that this will ignite Saturn into a star. Saturn is even less massive than Jupiter, and would require more than 100 times its current mass before it was heavy enough to ignite nuclear fusion in its core. This idea is called "Project Lucifer".
There's another idea called the Nemesis theory, which proposes that our Sun has a binary companion star, maybe a brown dwarf or even a red dwarf. Every few million years or so, this star passes close to the Solar System and messes up orbits with its gravity. There's some evidence for this theory, since the Earth has a history of extinctions that happen every 65 million years or so. But if this second sun exists, we haven't observed it yet.

Then on independence day, Cassini would begin preparing for its real mission of entering Saturns atmosphere and detonating its 72 lbs of plutonium payload—the most launched into space until that point. Causing a chain reaction that would ignite the Saturn’s hydrogen atmosphere, in-turn beginning the processes of transforming Saturn into a star.
Within minutes, shock-waves from the blast will travel to Earth with a constant barrage of deadly radiation that will kill every living creature on the surface in a matter of days. The elite will survive by hiding in secret underground bunkers that have been constructing over the least 50 years. When the radiation has dissipated and return to the safe levels, the elite would emerge from the safety of their Noah’s Arch and reclaim their planet in the name of their God Lucifer.
Back in April, NASA extended Cassini’s mission for another 2 years now ending in 2010. Now the events of the Lucifer Project will closer relate to life imitating art. If you remember in the late Arthur C. Clarks novel, 2010: The Year We Made Contact that Jupiter was transformed into the Sun, in this case they are going to try it with Saturn.

I am what you may think of as a 'modern' Ascended Master, closely connected to many of you. Indeed I walked several lifetimes with the channel, and in many sojourns, studied I, the Science of the Stars. And the science and art of Astrology is the knowledge of space and time. Perfectly scored to accommodate every intrinsic autonomous form, the Law of Time is supreme in its creative power to make all movement and measure into art with the brush & paint of exquisite gateways imbedded in the canvas, the fabric and tapestry of linear movement you call time.
Know Ye, that your physical reality is mass/energy embedded in its space-time matrix continuum in a matrix of or double duality, duality within polarity. Thus the resonant harmonics of one inertial reality is induced into the electro-magnetic context of all subsequent space/time holograms through unique frequencial gravity waves and geometric (Metatronic) light codes formed & projected by all Celestial bodies. Thus does the Alchemical Science of Astronomy/Astrology affect the Earth and Mankind.
Now, I shift into more understandable terminology & vernacular as I speak to your specific inquiry.
The first 2 weeks of 2010 will be difficult, yet compelling.
So fasten your etheric seat belts everyone, and hold on tight! Mars & Mercury just joined Saturn in retrograde, there is a full moon lunar eclipse on Dec 31st,2009 and a new moon solar eclipse on January 15th.
The first 2 weeks of 2010 will be both trying and compelling. A unique energy is cascading the planet with the Quadrantids Meteor Shower occuring on January 3rd to further heighten the cocktail of intense energies. Solarwinds from increased activity in sunspots are adding to a fractal energy occurance in this extremely potent phase. It can in essence feel like taking one step backward before taking two steps forward, yet within this 'Quinfecta' is a great opportunity for realization. It is a crucible of magnaminous proportion. So Masters, it is well to place the focus on the two steps forward, as indeed this trying phase can also be a powerful cleansing tool if well utilized.
But take note ! Unguarded, this can be a time of weary lassitude. Indeed, as the exalted Lord Metatron has told you, the mass of humanity expends more energy during the months of December and January than they receive, and this oft result in a post holiday lull of diminished vitality and depression.
During the period of which you speak Saturn is also retrograde, adding to the intensity. Saturn then governing in this time, life purpose influenced by the Cancerian and Capricornian aspect & energies.
You may then be surprised that I tell you, the trifecta of Mercury, Saturn, Mars Retrograde, combined with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse and New Moon-Solar Eclipse are the perfect complement to the advent of the Triad Stargates, that of the double date 11-11, 12-12 and 12-21 Solstice of 2009. The Triad Stargates were the crucible, the bubbling up and surfacing of hidden obstacles, blockages that impede your growth into the Crystalline vibration of 'Impeccability'. And this will come full circle in the first 2 weeks of 2010. Time to get on the wagon or be left behind! For all is quickening in the 'crucible' of the Quintfecta.
And so we see that the Full Moon's lunar eclipse is within the influence of Cancer & Capricorn. It is then the axial integration of heart/home with 3d-world, and requires/offers the tedious balancing of the two. When eclipses fall in Cancer and Capricorn one faces a need to find equilibrium. It becomes an amplified crucible, a crisis in direction. Yet each eclipse has an effect not measured in pure astrological gravities, each then is unique and influenced by the flux of the human evolvement at the time, you see. Tailored then to the need of both Earth & Humanity within the linear time continuance, the Quintfecta will be a time of 'double-edge' that for many will be somewhat anxious, contentious and lethargic. Yet also provide opportunity for further inward resolve.
The Mercury retrograde in tandem with the 2 eclipses is a 'Quintfecta' of gravities that brings a 'Rubik's Cube' of juxtaposed issues that were brought to the forefront in the Triad Stargates, and enables them to be deeply reviewed and resolved. The New Moon Solar Eclipse on January 15th is extremely potent for the enactment of the new resolutions.
Global traditions of forming resolutions for the New Year are particularly enabled and powerful with the retrogrades & amplifying eclipse energies. Does this assist you?

Sainte Germain: Indeed, Beloved Friend, the honor is once and always mine. And know that I am always here, as part of the entourage of Ascended Masters and the Cosmic Council of Light, I am somewhat nearer to the Earthplane than the Archangels of High. We were with you in the June Solstice Gathering in our retreat in the Grand Tetons, and rejoin you gleefully & purposefully at this moment.
So, onward to your inquiry. First and foremost, do not allow the self to fall into the negative aspects of the fractal energies created within the retrogrades, for all is amplified by the full lunar eclipse, meterr showers and solar winds.
Guard the thoughts and emotions. Avoid arguments and entangling the energies in the downward spiral of worry or depression that so often occur in the post holiday season. Avoid mental lethargy. Work at being positive and keep the auric field intact. The Mars retrograde can and will affect the irritability of humans during January. Tempers can flare, and Mercury leads to further miscommunication. Walk on eggshells! Induce within and without the Violet Ray, the Violet Flame.
The energies of this period will undeniably compel introspection. Utilize this, but not in self condemnation, rather in seeking the recalibration of brighter light through the very electromagnetic induction of the Cancerian-Capricornian gravities.
And so with the Cancerian and Capricornian over-wave, these questions will come to many. Are you where you need to be in terms of abundance and sustenance? Are your 3d-world ambitions in alignment with the highest goals of Spirit? Are you 'Walking Your Talk'? The balance of these issues is a puzzle that each human must resolve.
So many with past lives in the 'cloth' are unable to find the grounding necessary in 3d jobs to manifest the paradigm of sustenance. Manna doesn't fall from heaven in the Ascending Earth, you are required to create in a manner than meets all the needs of your earthly sojourn. And YOU must make this happen, by action. Your abundance will not fall from the sky as in old belief systems.
Yet to manifest, you must be electro-magnetically intact, aurically whole, for you must expand to Crystalline MerKiVa. And listen carefully ! In expanding and reaching higher to greater dimensional realms, you must retain the connection to all dimensions, including the first three! So many in metaphysics forget the requirement to remain grounded. Mastering the third dimension is a big part of your growth, and that cannot be achieved through abandoning 3d, for the dimension of three is the very dimension you are required to Master before moving higher.
There are as always the generalized conditions well understood within Mercury Retrogrades. As understood communications misconstrued, travel can be affected. Mankind can feel lethargic and irritable. Mental apathy can lead to inattentiveness and automobile accidents occur when focus is diminished. Attention, patience and caution are the rule! Tread softly in communication, and use patience in travel. Spend time in contemplation.
Indeed the very density of the energies during the Five Primary Gravities of Influence that can create profound contemplation can also lead to brooding. Soul searching is the better way. So you see there is a Method to the Madness, a light at the end of the tunnel! And so to answer in summary the question of optimal use, the Dec 31-Jan 15 Quintfecta (I have coined a new term !) should be utilized for inner examination, indeed with concerted effort you will go deeper during the periods of Mercury and Saturn retrograde within the amplifications of the eclipses than you may imagine. The energies are in fact conducive to introversion. Utilize the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (December 31st) for examination, and the Solar Eclipse on the New Moon (January 15th) to commit to your resolves. Does this answer your question?

Sainte Germain: The Equinoxes, Solstices, Eclipses, Triple Date Portal of 10-10-10, specific to 2010. In every year the moon aspects of full moon, new moon, understanding of the utilization of waxing and waning lunar cycles. The March 20 Equinox , the 10-10-10 and the Full Moon Eclipse on the December 21st Solstice are the three most potent. The total solar eclipse on July 11th, and the Equinox of 22 September also offer powerful stargates. The 12-12 of December combined with the 12-21 will be extremely potent as well.
Understanding of planetary movement and alignments occurring in June and July. On June 13, 2010, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mercury will be lined up on one side of the Sun while Venus, Mars, and Saturn will be lined up on the other side. Earth will be perpendicular to the Sun at this time.
This is paired with a very significant planetary configuration, as an exact aspect in the forth week of July. The quadrature alignment of the moon and five planets, with other significant factors in hard aspect, indicate a transformational crisis of the collective consciousness playing out dramatically on a global scale. It will not be an easy summer, yet much can be released and initially steps taken to bring a resolve to Global conflict on a macro scale. Yet the drama is somewhat redirected though the Total Solar Eclipse of July 11 which offers some reprieve.
From the September Equinox thru the 10-10-10 there will be high solar activity with the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn. That means a probability of solarwinds sweeping the planet and geomagnetic storms.

Will the Egyptians scrap the millennium ceremony at the Giza Pyramids? By Robert G. Bauval
Amid accusation of 'Zionist' plots and 'Masonic' skullduggery, the Egyptian government is half minded to canceling the placing of a golden capstone on top of the Great Pyramid on the eve of the new millennium. It all began, strangely enough, in Paris in May 1998 when, after a golden capstone was ceremoniously placed on top of the Egyptian obelisk which stands at the Place de la Concorde, the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni, announced that a similar ceremony would take place at the Great Pyramid of Giza at midnight on the 31st December 1999:
"We cannot rebuild the pyramids stone by stone, so we have chosen a symbolic event like the ancient Egyptians did when they used to cap obelisks like what the French did at the Place de la Concorde".
Then in early October 1998, the minister announced that he had commissioned French composer Jean-Michel Jarre to organize an all-night opera for this event. Details were then released in due course by the official Egyptian Tourist Authorities. They announced that Jarre would compose a 12-hours opera titled "The Twelve Dream of the Sun" for the sum of 10 million US dollars and that,
"At midnight a helicopter will fly into the site and, hovering in a starburst of lasers and spotlights, will place a gigantic gilded capstone atop the Great Pyramid --all to the accompaniment of what is expected to be an unprecedented Jarre crescendo of electronic music. The gold cap, approximately 28 feet high (about the size of a two-story house) is being especially constructed to protect the pyramid structure. In place, it will catch the first light of the new millennium as the sun rises over Egypt. Capping pyramids with gold and timing important events to the setting and rising sun are very much part of the ancient Egyptian pharoanic tradition, making this piece of Jarre theatre particularly meaningful."
It appears that the idea originated with Dr. Zahi Hawass, Under-secretary of State for the Giza Monuments. Apparently Hawass had made a recent discovery at Abusir near Giza, where he unearthed two limestone blocks with ancient inscriptions and drawings depicting workers moving a golden capstone for a royal pyramid amid scenes of dancing and celebrations. Hawass suggested to his superior, culture minister Farouk Hosni, that this was the ideal way that Egypt should celebrate the millennium. Jean-Michel Jarre proposed that 3 million people should be allowed to attend the event. The Egyptian authorities, however, stipulated a limit of 250,000 for 'security reasons'. Huge promotional events were organised in various capitals of the Western world, including New York, Los Angeles, Sydney and various cities in Europe. Preparations then began for a huge stage in the desert south of the Great Pyramid, intended to have seating capacity for 25 000 people at the price of $ 400 per ticket. Cheaper tickets were also sold for 'standing' places. All was apparently going to plan until September 1999, when senior member of the Egyptian Parliament began to complaint of the costs and that in December was also the religious month of Ramadan, when all devout Muslims have to fast from dawn to dusk and foreigners in Egypt are asked to refrain from drinking alcohol or eating in public areas during the hours of fasting. To counteract such criticism, culture minister Farouk Hosni stated that a ban would be placed on alcohol during the celebrations and that no music would be played till after the official breaking of fasting was announced. To add fuel to this political fire, the radical Egyptian press, notably the newspaper Al Shaab (The People) found out that Jean-Michel Jarre intended to project the so-called 'eye of Horus' on the Great Pyramid with laser lights, and immediately denounced the organisers of staging a 'Zionist' and 'Masonic' stunt. The Al Shaab claimed that the 'eye in the pyramid' blatantly evoked the well-known symbol of Freemasonry which can be seen on the US one-dollar bill. These accusations were hotly denied by Farouk Hosni and Zahi Hawass. "The suggestion is groundless", said Hawass." The celebration has nothing to do with Masonic beliefs. The design on the US dollar is a faulty imitation of the Pyramids of the Middle Kingdom."
The Americans have been paying particular attention to the proposed millennium ceremony at Giza, with dozen of guided tours already fully booked by US and Egyptian travel agents. Others will watch the event on television with over sixty major networks already signed up to broadcast by satellite the placing of the golden capstone on top of the Great Pyramid 'live' to channels all over the world.
"I will wait in front of the TV to see this great moment. It is one in a lifetime. I am counting the days!" Said Julie Holmes, a lawyer from Los Angeles.
A high profile group in Washington DC calling itself The Millennium Society, with members such as ex-White House official, Edward McNally, and a list of guests including Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, Deng Xiaoping, Bill clinton, Bruce Springsteen, Elizabeth Taylor and Nelson Mandela apparently will,
"attend the World Millennium Charity Celebration, the 'Celebration of Civilisation' to welcome the Year 2000 at the Great Pyramid of Cheops and 23 satellite locations on New Year's Eve 1999’ĶThe Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt, will be the cornerstone site of the World Millennium Celebration, and sanctioned events will be held at selected locations around the world. These celebrations will be linked to create a round-the-globe, round the clock welcome to the Year 2000."
Adding to the growing hype is another strange twist involving the 'prophecies' made by American Psychic Edgar Cayce also known as the 'Sleeping Prophet'. Cayce, who died in 1945, foretold the placing of a gilded capstone on the Great Pyramid which, according to him, would act as a 'symbol' for the rediscovery of the legendary 'Hall of Records of Atlantis' under the Sphinx and the second coming of Christ:
"The apex, the crown or apex (or capstone) was of metal; that was to be indestructible, being of copper, brass, gold with other alloys’Ķ it became very fitting that there should be the crowning or placing of this 'symbol of the records' by one who represent the old and the new’Ķ Hence there has arisen from this ceremony many of the things that may be seen as present’Ķ the sounding of the New Year’Ķ 1998 from the death of the Son of Man’Ķ"
Oddly, Cayce also associates the event with the establishment of a sort of New World order based on Masonic principles:
"For with those changes that will be wrought, Americanism with the universal thought that is expressed and manifest in the Brotherhood of man into group thought as expressed in the Masonic Order, will be the eventual rule in the settlement of affairs in the world. Not that the world is to become a Masonic Order, but the principle that are embraced in the same will be the basis upon which the new order of peace is to be established’Ķ"
Even more odd, perhaps, is the bizarre claim by Cayce that Jesus and John the Baptist (the patron saint of Freemasons) "took those last of the Brotherhood degrees" in the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Edgar Cayce Foundation has, since at least 1973, been involved in various expeditions at Giza to find the 'Hall of Records'. Two of its senior members, Dr. Joseph Schor and Mr. Joseph Jahoda, cause a huge controversy in 1996 when, under the cover of a license to conduct a general survey of Giza to find and repair faults and chasms under the bedrock, they extended their mandate and explored the ground under the Sphinx and claimed to have located a large man-made cavity under the paws at precisely the place Edgar Cayce had indicated. In August 1999 during a conference at the Edgar Cayce Foundation, Dr. Zahi Hawass announced the release of a new license to Joe Schor to conduct more radar soundings to find the Hall of Records under the Sphinx. He also announced that a small trap door at the end of a narrow tunnel inside the Great Pyramid, which was discovered by a German team in 1993 using a mechanised robot, will be opened early next year by the National Geographic team. Unconfirmed reports state that the Schor expedition planned to be at Giza on the 7th December 1999 to start their search with hopes that the Egyptian authorities will allow them to 'go further' if the radar results prove to be conclusive. Over the years much controversy and rumours has surrounded the precise relationship of the Edgar Cayce Foundation and the Egyptian Antiquities Organisation. Other than the fact that the Edgar Cayce Foundation promotes psychic beliefs and Biblical prophecies of the Second Coming of Christ, the finding of the Hall of Records and the lost continents of Atlantis, a much more down to earth controversy has been generated in an official biography of Edgar Cayce's eldest son, Hugh Lynn, where it is alleged that the latter was responsible in some ways for arranging for the university education of two senior officials involved with the Giza monuments. Edgar Cayce is also known to have envisaged in his trance sessions (called 'readings') the establishment of a new world order based on Masonic ideologies for the next millennium and somehow connected to the 'missing' capstone of the Great Pyramid and the return of the Christ. Whether it is anything to do with this or rather the recent announcement that an 'eye of Horus' would be projected on the Great Pyramid during the millennium celebrations is not clear, but in November 1999 the radical Egyptian press began to make open accusations of "Zionist" and "Masonic" plots, claiming that the combination of the golden capstone with the 'eye' symbol, which also appears on the US one-dollar bill, evoked Freemasonic ideologies. This symbol is also seen on the Great Seal of the United States of America which many believe to be Masonic. In early December the Egyptian authorities showed signs of caving in by threatening to scrap the golden capstone for the Great Pyramid. A face saving decision has been deferred to a 'scientific committee' who will have to approve or reject the scheme. It does seem extraordinary, however, that at this 11th hour with thousands of visitors already booked on flights and at hotels in Cairo and with dozens of TV networks geared to broadcast the event 'live' to all parts of the world, that the Egyptians are now speculating such a move. With less than two weeks to go to the 31st December, such a move would be disastrous not only for the tourist authorities but for Dr. Hawass and those who conceived the event. Also Dr. Zahi Hawass has very recently announced that the capstone, which apparently is made of an 8 m high metal frame, will not be covered in gold sheets but in copper, a rather poor replacement for such an event. Furthermore Dr. Hawass confusingly stated that "we cannot put it up with a helicopter because it will hurt the pyramid. Therefore if we find out that that putting this capstone will hurt the pyramid, then, we will not do it." It is very hard to see how a light metal frame lowered gently on the summit of the 6 million tons pyramid could 'hurt' it. It would be like placing a feather on an elephant's back; and even harder to see how else Dr. Hawass proposes to take the capstone up the 200 plus courses of the Great Pyramid to a height of 145 meters above ground level. Anyone who has climbed the Great Pyramid will know that this cannot be an easy task. Also missing the point, Dr. Hawass also denied that the capstone has anything to do with 'some societies', meaning Freemasonry. The point is not whether the decision to place the capstone has anything to do with the Brotherhood or any other 'society' but rather that the very act of placing it and the alleged projection of the 'eye of Horus' on the monument evokes Masonic ideologies and principles. As yet no official announcement has been made by the Egyptian State Information Service to cancel this event, and it is so far presumed that they will still go ahead. For scrapping the capstone ceremony would almost certainly be a serious blow to the credibility of those who promoted the idea in the first place. It would also generate a backlash from the thousands of visitors who have already paid hefty prices for airline tickets and hotels in order to witness the event on location; and greatly disappoint the millions of viewers around the world who prepared to watch it on television. It seems that it is not the 6 million tons stone pyramid that is at risk of being 'hurt' but the Egyptians' reputation for the flop of the millennium. The eyes of the world are watching.
