'Skull-n-Boner' Kerry welcomes a 'Brave New World' of Journalism

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) began Wednesday's commerce subcommittee hearing on "the Future of Journalism" by welcoming media executives, Senate colleagues and audience members to a "brave new world."

The hearing opened just 12 hours after staffers at Kerry's home-town paper, the Boston Globe, agreed to an 8.3 percent pay cut for staffers just to keep the doors open.

Newspapers, Kerry said, "look like an endangered species."

"Most of us in this room probably begin our day with a newspaper-maybe two or three," Kerry said in his remarks. "Newspapers have been a part of our daily lives since we were old enough to read, and since our first paper routes, for me delivering the now defunct Washington Star. We learned about our neighborhood, our country, our world from newspapers - they entertained us; they enraged us; but always, they have informed us."

Jupiter Didn't Ignite, Despite Reports of a 2nd Sun

There are reports circulating the Internet that Jupiter has ignited to create a second sun in our solar system, with videos to prove it (headlines read "Jupiter Ignites!" and "NASA proofs").

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your fondness for Jupiter and for hoaxes) it isn't true.

A combination of imaging artifacts on NASA's STEREO spacecraft, along with a solar flare that crossed the field of view in front of Jupiter, did indeed make a vivid impression, explains NASA astrophysicist Alex Antunes on his blog. But Jupiter is still out there, orbiting our sun as a comparatively mundane gas giant planet. (Side note: STEREO is searching for remains of a "lost planet" theorized, for real, to have crashed into Earth a few billion years ago to create the moon.)

(For more on the latest regarding a real hypothesis for a possible 2nd sun, see this 2001 article. I'm not aware of any evidence adding further credence to the idea since then.)

Hoaxes on the Web, be they intended as such or not, are nothing new. (A recent favorite: The Jersey guys who lofted balloons with flares into the night sky to create an alien scare; they got busted by their own videos and ordered to pay a $250 fine.) But with YouTube and the ability to manipulate raw data and video footage, or to append whatever wild theories to one wishes, expect more of this sort of thing.

Oh, and while we're at it, did you know the world will end in 2012?

Jupiter Ignites into a second Star!
The Son of Lucifer is Born?

While I was napping, Jupiter became a 2nd sun. Although it was observed in January by STEREO, we forgot to tell people. Or perhaps we were hiding the truth. Also, it was so well covered on YouTube that we didn't think we had to bother with a press release. And thus occurred the most benign conspiracy in the history of NASA. See, usually NASA is accused of hiding evidence of aliens, moon landing hoaxes, flat Earths, and other things Too Dangerous For People To Know. But when Jupiter was seen igniting as a second sun, the response was... upbeat.

Image of the solar corona, taken by the SECCHI inner Heliospheric Imager (HI-1)on the STEREO Behind observatory on January 25, 2009 at 00:09:23 UT.

Centered primarily on YouTube, since the evidence is a movie taken directly from a STEREO (SECCHI HI) instrument, the general tone was less "what are they hiding?" and more "Hooray!" One video by Joyu2012 states with mild coherence GF ignites Jupiter into a sun_Proofs@NASA_15 Feb 2009.

Snark aside, the various YouTube clips are really touching. Unlike most photoshopped conspiracy buffs deluding themselves into insanity, these have three notable features:
  1. They use the actual unaltered data
  2. They attempt to intepret the data using scientific theories (notably the concept Jupiter was a failed sun)
  3. They ask non-paranoid questions about what happened

What was seen was: Jupiter moving slowly across the wide HI instrument field of view. A CME erupts from the sun. As the CME appears to overlap with Jupiter, Jupiter (near the edge of the field of view) brightens, and after the CME is gone, Jupiter is blooming bright, bright, bright. So calling it a Jupiter Ignition isn't totally untoward. Over at AlienExistence, a poster named Mike has an excellent play-by-play of the event, with links to the actual data. And indeed, I regret to inform you that we do not have a second sun in our solar system. We do still have the planet Jupiter, though, and that should be worth something. I'm a skeptic, so my first thought upon hearing of the supposed ignition was 'instrument artifact'. I even reported on a different early 'first light' instrument artifact that almost bit our team. And indeed the Jupiter Ignition Event is an artifact due to image saturation, flaring, and field of view distortion, heightened by the coincidence that a solar CME happens to cross the instrument's field of view at the same time as the much-further-out Jupiter. It's really quite stunning. I only found out about this yesterday, at lunch. Karl Battams, aka Mr. Sungrazer, is our resident comet guru. He's tasked with answering the email queries and will be putting up the official report on the sungrazer site. I thought I'd break the news here a

Freeman Dyson thinks there may be flowers on Jupiter's moon, Europa:

Panspermia is a hypothesis that suggests life isn’t an Earth-only affair. The seeds of life may have spread throughout the Solar System and beyond via chunks of rock or comets, encountering planetary bodies, transporting spores or bacteria to other worlds. In short, we could be living in a cosmic ecosystem linked through simple interplanetary vagabond bacteria.

However, panspermia remains in the realms of speculation as we haven’t found any examples of extraterrestrial life (so far), let alone the possibility that life may be roaming freely through the vacuum of space. But panspermia as a life-spreading mechanism remains a possibility.

Now, famous physicist and futurist Freeman Dyson has come forward with an idea about what we should be looking for during the search for extraterrestrial life. Dyson believes the search for ET is flawed, as we are looking for what we deem to be probable lifeforms; perhaps we should be looking for detectable lifeforms.

Dyson points out that we should look for the most detectable forms of life. And one such example is the flower.

The Arctic Poppy (pictured top) is a flower that forms a parabolic shape. This shape maximizes the light that reflects off the inside of the petals so the interior of the plant can utilize solar energy. In the Arctic, often light is at a premium, so the flower has adapted to make full use of the Sun it can receive. From a distance, these mini solar collectors reflect a lot of light, and they should create a good indicator that plant life is thriving.

Now if we think about the icy Jovian moon Europa, it is thought to contain a liquid water ocean beneath a thick crust of ice and astrobiologists are very keen to send a mission to probe this potential life-harbouring habitat. Unfortunately, it might be hard for any robotic submersible to drop into the depths of this sub-surface sea as the ice could be up to 100 km thick in places.

So Dyson suggests that perhaps we should send an orbiter to Europa, not to look for an indication of life in the sub-surface ocean, but to look for more detectable signs of life, like flowers on the surface of the icy planet. After all, many types of plants grow in extremely cold locations on Earth, perhaps extreme plants thrive on Europa’s surface too?

NASA and ESA Prioritize Outer Planet Missions

Elites TV - ‎11 hours ago‎
At a meeting in Washington last week, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and European Space Agency officials decided to continue pursuing studies of a mission to Jupiter and its four largest moons, and to plan for another potential mission to visit Saturn’s largest moon Titan and Enceladus.

Both of these proposed missions are grand endeavors that set the stage for future planetary science research. These outer planet flagship missions could eventually answer questions about how our solar system formed and whether life exists elsewhere in the universe.

Did Several Moons Once Orbit Earth?

The history of planet Earth is a fascinating story, involving catastrophic collisions with other small planets and a veritable plethora of asteroid impacts. The prevailing theory about the formation of the moon is called the giant impact hypothesis: the theory goes that a Mars-sized object, known as Theia, crashed in to the young Earth. What was left was Earth, and its moon.

200,000 Year Old Statue of an Angel Found On Moon?

WASHINGTON, DC - A noted scientist has just produced proof that the lunar surface was inhabited by intelligent life: a 10-inch angel sculpture embedded in a moon rock.

Geologist Dr. Morris Charles revealed last week that NASA lab workers chipped the angel from one of the rocks brought to Earth by Apollo 11 astronauts 40 years ago, in 1969. Dr. Charles was a NASA scientist himself for 23 years but left the agency in 1987. He still maintains close ties to many of his former colleagues.

“The implications of this figurine are absolutely mind-boggling,” Dr. Charles told reporters. “It means that at one time the moon had an atmosphere conducive to life. And what’s more, it was once home to a sophisticated race of people with a highly refined sense of beauty.”

The angel - a humanoid female with wing-like appendages on her back and long flowing hair - is made of an iron compound found exclusively in the highlands of the moon.

This rules out the possibility that it was dropped by a race of aliens from another planet. It’s been hand polished to a silvery metallic sheen. Based on chemical analysis of the metal, geologists estimate the sculpture to be 200,000 years old which means it was made 170,000 years before the human species appeared on Earth.

It’s been examined by art experts who concur with Dr. Charles’ appraisal of the culture that produced it. “Clearly these beings had a sense of religion that parallels our Christianity. Perhaps they had a Jesus of their own, proving that the important spiritual principles are, in a very literal sense, universal,” said a Washington anthropologist.

Others are not so sure of its religious significance. Dr. Miles Fredericks of New York University countered, “This is just more Christian propaganda. The Sumerians told stories of the Annunaki, winged deities, as far back as 18th century BC. Maybe the Sumerians were visited by these moon beings, who merely modeled the statue after their own image.”

While many ponder the significance of the figure, others are curious about why it has remained a secret for so long. “The artifact has been common knowledge among NASA insiders for years,” said Dr. Charles. “But space agency higher-ups have kept the information highly classified, fearing world-wide panic. It was smuggled out to me by persons who must, for obvious reasons, remain anonymous.”

NASA officially denies Dr. Charles’ allegations. The statue was displayed to photographers and newsmen but is now being held for further study at an undisclosed location.

Astronauts of Antiquity - Zecharia Sitchin has already shown in The Twelfth Planet that the statues of gods and goddesses from Sumer present special helmets with protuberances on both sides (the Middle Ages’s illiteracy turned them into”devil horns”), which perfectly look like the pilots’ headphones; the statues were provided with the SHU.GAR.RA - a term that literally means”that which makes you go far into the Universe”.

Another image discovered in North Israel, dating back to the ninth millennium B.C., represents the sculpted head of a god with a helmet and safety glasses. Also a picture of the goddess Ishtar from her temple in Sumer…

All this suggests to us that the attire …was that of an aeronaut or an astronaut”…

Many drawings on the Sumerian plates show the gods with wings, which were not belonging to the body, but they were accessories of the flight suit, therfore the gods looked like eagles…
This drawing on a Sumerian plate suggests that an Anunnaki / Elohim spaceship is connected to the base on Earth.”The central object … it is more mechanical, more manufactured than natural. Its (( wings )) looks almost exactly like the solar panels which American spacecraft are provided to convert the Sun’s energy to electricity. The two antennas cannot be mistaken. The circular craft … is located between Mars (the six - pointed star) and Earth and its Moon”(Z. Sitchin, The Twelfth Planet)…

House Demands Full Disclosure On DHS “Right-wing Extremism” Report

Rare legislative move guarantees resolution within two weeks

Steve Watson

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Republican Representatives have demanded answers from the Department of Homeland Security over the origins of the leaked security intelligence assessment which equates veterans and gun owners with violent terrorists.

Senator David Vitter on DHS "Right Wing Extremism" report

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner filed the request using a little known legislative procedure called “a resolution of inquiry”, which ensures that the Democratic leadership will publicly resolve the issue within 14 days.

“The report that came out of DHS was offensive, and unfortunately, Secretary Napolitano still has a lot of explaining to do,” Boehner told the Washington Times.

“She has not explained how this report came about, why she signed off on it, or why she defended it.” the Ohio Republican stated.

The resolution, co-sponsored by Rep. Peter T. King of New York, the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, requests that all documents and information pertaining to the compilation of the intelligence assessment be revealed.

“We have made repeated requests that the committee hold a bipartisan oversight hearing, but unfortunately those requests have been ignored. We are left with no other alternative but to demand answers from the secretary of homeland security herself,” Mr. King commented.

CHICO -- A pair of realistic drills Monday tested the ability of Chico police and firefighters to deal with an active shooter, in a public place, intent on inflicting as many injuries as possible in a short period of time. The first drill, at 6 a.m., brought emergency personnel to the Chico Mall on East 20th Street. Police, including SWAT members, found civilian "victims" already suffering from pretend gunshot wounds. During the process of working their way toward the imaginary shooter, officers also sustained wounds. Some victims were fitted with artificial hands and wrists, which bled a red liquid onto the mall floor, adding to the realism of the drill.
Police Lt. Linda Dye said the drills simulated environments with real world possibilities. "These situations evolve rapidly and require a rapid and dynamic response from police officers in the field," Dye stated in a press release. While police sought to eliminate the threat from the shooter, fire and medical personnel were responsible for formulating a rescue/evacuation plan, then triage the injured and transport them to the local trauma center. The drill at the mall concluded before stores opened.
A second drill, at noon, presented emergency responders with a similar scenario taking place at the Enloe Medical Center's Cohasset Road facility. Chico police Lt. John Carrillo supervised the drills, which also included officers from the Chico State University police.

By Chuck Baldwin, May 7, 2009, NewsWithViews. com

Many patriotic Americans, including many retired and former military personnel, are increasingly chagrined at the direction the U.S. armed forces are taking. For one thing, there were numerous instances in the Clinton and both Bush administrations when American GIs were required to serve under foreign or United Nations commanders. Does anyone remember the Michael New case? How can any American GI, who has taken an oath to the U.S. Constitution, willingly surrender himself to a foreign commander, flag, or uniform? That is a potential conflict that has caused many to question modern military service.

Another potential moral conflict in modern military service (at least for Christians) is the inter-sex training and quartering that is now required in every branch of military service (except the Marine Corps). To put healthy young adults of the opposite sex in such close and, many times, compromising environments is more than problematic for those wishing to stay morally pure. (Christian parents should know that many state colleges and universities now require students to live in coed dorms, including using coed bathrooms and showers.) Add to this President Barack Obama's determination to expunge the Department of Defense's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, thereby allowing open homosexuals to serve in the military. All of the above has many Christians questioning the wisdom of giving their sons and daughters to today's U.S. military.

Another disconcerting element of modern military service is the reality that today's American military is more and more being used as the tool of globalists to forge an international New World Order. For instance, both Republican and Democratic Presidential administrations will send U.S. military personnel (including the National Guard) to guard the borders of foreign countries, but never ask them to protect our own borders. Sending the National Guard overseas, especially, strains the principles of constitutional government. But maybe that explains why we have so many foreign troops on U.S. soil. After all, did President George W. Bush not ask foreign troops to monitor our borders and skies in the weeks and months following the attacks on 9/11?

Using U.S. troops as international "peacekeepers" only serves the interests of the international New World Order; it has nothing to do with protecting the lives and property of the American people. In fact, an argument could be made that every war the United States has fought since World War II has been unconstitutionally waged: for the purpose of fulfilling the globalistic aspirations of world leaders and not for the defense of the United States. Accordingly, many Christian parents are hesitant to give their children to modern military service.

If all of the above is not enough, we read this story from Reuters and One News Now: "The U.S. military is confirming that it has destroyed some Bibles belonging to an American soldier serving in Afghanistan.

"Reuters News says the Bibles were confiscated and destroyed after Qatar-based Al Jazeera television showed soldiers at a Bible class on a base with a stack of Bibles translated into the local Pashto and Dari languages. The U.S. military forbids its members on active duty--including those based in places like Afghanistan- -from trying to convert people to another religion.

"Reuters quotes Maj. Jennifer Willis at the Bagram Air Base, north of Kabul, who said 'I can now confirm that the Bibles shown on Al Jazeera's clip were, in fact, collected by the chaplains and later destroyed. They were never distributed. '" (Source: OneNewsNow.com, 5/5/09)

For any Christian, this episode highlights a very serious conflict of duty. Any genuine Christian must take his Lord's command to "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" very seriously. In fact, how can any Christian not witness to others--whoever they are--of Christ's redeeming grace? To refuse to do so amounts to willful rejection of Christ, in which case, it is doubtful that genuine salvation is even present.

Therefore, how can a Christian dutifully obey his Savior and Lord on the one hand, while, at the same time, obeying a military order forbidding him or her from "trying to convert people"? And how could any genuine Christian chaplain willingly confiscate and DESTROY God's Holy Word? I could be mistaken, but I don't believe even Adolf Hitler burned Bibles. He burned a lot of books, but I've never read that he burned God's Word.

Now, no one has more respect and admiration for military personnel than I do. My dad and his two brothers proudly served their country in World War II. One brother served in the U.S. Marines and was wounded in the Pacific. The other served in the Navy, and Dad was selected to work on the Atomic Bomb. I have a nephew who served in the Marines in Gulf War I, and some of my closest friends are former, retired, or active-duty military.

I feel the same way about law enforcement personnel. In my youth, law enforcement was my chosen career. Some of my dearest friends are either retired or active-duty law enforcement officers. It is a noble profession.

We have to be honest enough to admit, however, that both the U.S. military and many of our law enforcement agencies are being co-opted by a politically correct leadership that is in the process of changing the rules of conduct--not to mention the rules of engagement.

Our military personnel are more and more resembling international policemen, while our local and state peacekeepers resemble military forces. Neither bodes well for U.S. sovereignty and independence, or for liberty at home.

When we have federal police agents, with no justification or authority, brutally beating an innocent pastor; when FBI agents use the Patriot Act to seize an obviously innocent teen-age boy from his home, and then afford him no constitutional rights; when U.S. military personnel are required to wear U.N. blue and take orders from foreign commanders; when U.S. military personnel are used as international policemen; when military chaplains are ordered to not pray in Jesus' name and to confiscate and destroy Bibles; and when soldiers are commanded to not witness for Christ or share their faith; then it is apparent that the role of both the U.S. military and law enforcement are being dramatically altered--and not for the better.

It is for good reason that many Christians (and non-Christians, for that matter) are looking twice at modern military service. In fact, a retired high-ranking military officer (whose name I will not divulge) recently told me, "Chuck, there is no way I could recommend that anyone volunteer in the U.S. military today."

Obviously, we have a host of honorable men and women of sound character and conviction still serving in both the U.S. military and in various law enforcement agencies. Thank God!

It is also obvious, however, that the powers that be are quickly "remaking" (to use Barack Obama's word) our military and law enforcement agencies into an image never desired or designed by America's Founding Fathers. Thus, the conflict between good men and bad policies will only worsen. And many will continue to question the wisdom of giving their sons and daughters to modern military service.

On the other hand, an argument could be made that it is at such a time as this that good men are all the more needed in the U.S. military and in law enforcement. That is a very valid argument, by the way: as long as those good men realize what they will be required to risk when their superiors order them to surrender allegiance to the Constitution or to sacred principle. But then again, we are all required to share in that risk, are we not?

Solar Storms Ahead
Is Earth Prepared?

from Mitch Battros - Earth Changes Media

When we look at the Sun it appears to be a uniform, unchanging star. But scientists and engineers have a much different perspective. To them, the Sun is a dynamic, chaotic, and poorly understood caldron of thermonuclear forces, one that can spit out fierce bursts of radiation at any time.

Fifty years into the Space Age, Earth has avoided the worst the Sun can deliver - so far. But with the Sun entering a period of increased activity, more frequent solar flares could be headed our way. This has many astronomers and companies asking if satellites and power grids are ready.
