Plastic blood

May 23 - British scientists have come up with a revolutionary plastic product which could save lives around the world.

A type of artificial blood has been created after five years of research.

Scientists have combined a hollow, square-shaped molecule with iron to monomers that build together in a tree-like structure.

The result is similar to natural haemoglobin in size and shape.

Sonia Legg reports.
