Libya, it should be remembered, was behind the 1986 attack on a Berlin nightclub that was frequented by U.S. service members. Two years later, Libyan agents bombed Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270. Libya and its leader, Moammar Gaddafi, were longtime sponsors of terrorism.
And now they have a seat on the Security Council.
Feeling more secure?
It was not all that long ago that both the United States and the United Nations slapped sanctions on Libya. But that was then, we are told, and this is now. The times and Libya have changed. Well, perhaps. But we believe that there is good reason to remain skeptical.
